About us
ElFys, Inc. was founded in fall 2017 to commercialize induced junction black silicon photodiode technology invented by a group of university researchers. We manufacture highly sensitive photodiodes with external quantum efficiency (EQE) greater than 96% over a broad range of wavelengths (250 to 950 nm). The superior sensitivity is achieved with our patented technology utilizing induced junction and black silicon. This combination eliminates practically all electrical and optical losses resulting into nearly ideal photodiode response. We have individual photodiodes available with standard sizes e.g. 5x5 mm2 and 10 x 10 mm2. Upon request, we can also produce custom sizes and shapes as well as arrays and matrices of photodiodes, enabling a drop in replacement of your current photodiode.

PhotonWear, a Co-innovation project funded by Business Finland, is part of Bittium’s Veturi program titled Seamless and Secure Connectivity. The PhotonWear project is planned to conclude at the end of October 2025. The research consortium is made up of businesses in healthcare and wellness, leading companies focused on new photonics technologies, and research institutes and academic partners. The project partners are GE HealthCare, ElFys, Inc. , ŌURA , Bittium and the University of Oulu with international research exchange between universities and research institutes VTT The optical sensors used in the measurement devices contain a new kind of photodetector whose sensitivity is up to 50% higher compared to traditional technology. This new technology was developed by consortium partner ElFys. “The black silicon developed by ElFys enables much more accurate measurements compared to traditional photosensors, even when measuring weak light signals. As a result, you get higher-quality data. In this project, we get to apply our technology in several applications of wearable health technology”, says ElFys Chief Technology Officer Antti Haarahiltunen. Read more: https://lnkd.in/darqttHm
